Hilo High locked down following explosion on campus

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hilo High School is under lockdown Thursday afternoon following a minor explosion on campus, according to the Dept. of Education.

The blast occurred just before 12:15 p.m. outside the school auditorium while class was in session. No injuries are reported.

DOE officials tell Hawaii News Now the device that detonated appears to be homemade. No suspects are in custody, and the campus remains locked down until further notice.  Police are investigating.
